Measuring Your Kitchen

All your need is a tape measure, pencil and a blank sheet of paper. Don't worry about drawing straight lines or to scale-what we need are the dimensions, an indication of windows and door locations.

First, draw a rough outline of your kitchen. Starting at the corner of the wall with your kitchen sink, measure the distance to the center of the window, to the next corner or door, and continue clockwise around the room. Make sure to show which way the door(s) swing. Note the ceiling height in the margin.

Measure doors and windows from the outside edges. Make a separate drawing showing a frontal view of each window and door, with height, width and distance from the floor.

Appliances

Make a a list of all the appliances you want in your kitchen, and the sizes if you know them already. Here's a checklist:
